To the amazing and wonderful Mohan community, 

My name is Andrew King, and it is a great honor to be the Principal of Alliance Dr. Olga Mohan High School. I am honored to be able to continue Mohan’s history of academic success, and am excited to be leading with joy, building belonging, centering equity, and ensuring that we are making a difference in the lives of all of our students!

I have been in education for over fifteen years and have had the pleasure of working in various school settings ranging from large traditional public schools to other Alliance schools in our network. I spent my first seven years as a history teacher and student government teacher at La Puente High School (LPHS), where I loved every minute of it. While at LPHS, I was honored as a Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year, a Carlston Family Foundation Outstanding Teacher of America, and a Claremont Graduate University Outstanding Alumni Teacher.

 I eventually made the difficult choice of leaving the classroom. I had the pleasure of serving as Assistant Principal at Pasadena High School and transitioned to become Assistant Principal of Alliance Dr. Olga Mohan High School. At Mohan, I worked closely with fantastic teachers, students, and families to build college success and strong school culture. Additionally, I had the pleasure of guiding initiatives on school-wide culture, increasing rigor for some of our highest performing students, and addressing our most vulnerable learners' reading and fluency needs. I also had the pleasure of leading our Nuclear Free Schools student club to advocate for nuclear disarmament locally and preparing students to present on youth initiatives internationally at conferences in Korea, Japan, and Austria.

The commitment to culture, academic rigor, and student support led to Mohan being honored as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School, a six-year recipient of the US News and World Report Gold Award, and is recognized as one of the top five schools in Los Angeles. 

From 2019-2021, I was the principal of Alliance Environmental Science High School. I led the school through a major transition period that included abrupt and unplanned leadership changes, significant budget and enrollment challenges, and the onset of COVID-19. Despite the challenges presented by COVID, I cultivated a safe, caring, and supportive community environment. In 2020, ESAT was recognized as a California Distinguished School. 

In 2021, I returned to Mohan to serve as Assistant Principal, before being named the next Principal of Mohan in July 2022. I hope to continue our legacy of trust, community, and academic brilliance. I have a deep fondness for the Mohan community, and I am excited to be able to lead us with a focus on Joy, Belonging, and Making a Difference.  

I am energized by the opportunity to build a shared vision, to work closely with our stakeholders, and to help our collective values thrive in our school as we uplift all of our students
